Cheap of the Cheap Poor of the Poor- Turtle Vacuum

Projects, Raspberry Pi Projects

December 17, 2015

You will never find a cheaper project than this (hence the title) all this project is is simply a vacuum cleaner that’s been automated by the infamous Raspberry Pi. Sound simple? It is simple but that dosen’t mean that anyone can do it; you still need experience writing command scripts for automated machines.

Of course nothing ‘actually comes for free’ so you’re still going to need the following:

COMPONENTS
  • 1×Raspberry Pi 2
  • 1×Roomba 780
  • 1×Kinect for Xbox 360 + Hacked USB Splitter
  • 1×MinigorillaMultivoltage battery
  • 1×7pin Mini DIN + Jumper Wires + USB UART

Raspberry Raman Spectrometer

Projects, Raspberry Pi, Raspberry Pi Projects

December 7, 2015

Raman spectroscopy is a spectroscopic technique used to observe vibrational, rotational, and other low-frequency modes in a system. Raman spectroscopy is commonly used in chemistry to provide a fingerprint by which molecules can be identified.

A bench top, raman spectrometer constructed from very easy to source components and 3D parts printable on even entry level printers. With a system that is a completely unique innovative design in the world of raman spectroscopy the Raspberry Raman Spectrometer has many advantages beyond the fact it can be constructed for a tiny fraction of the cost of a used commercial system, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars! It’s system connects to multiple internet databases to retrieve spectral data to identify chemical compounds under test. It is completely scalable to fit almost any budget… Many of the components can be used for other purposes outside…

Raspberry Eye

Projects, Raspberry Pi, Raspberry Pi Projects

December 7, 2015

Similar to Google Glasses, the Raspberry Eye takes advantage of Raspberry-compatible LCDs to attach your favourite pocket-sized computer to your head. Literally. Compared to your average pair of Google Glasses the Raspberry Eye is considerably cheaper costing around $100 compared to the standard $1500 Google Glasses. As a DIY project the Raspberry Eye revolves around the Raspberry Pi- meaning that all the scripts can be written using python. An advantage of this is that you can customise your Raspberry Eye as much as you want, letting you upload your own programs to make full use of this portable ‘head camera’.

The original inventor of this resides at: https://hackaday.io/project/865-raspberry-eye

December 4, 2015

A more scientific/industrial approach to the Raspberry Pi, this project aims to detect the presence of water within buildings. If water is detected an alarm will be sent to you to warn you in case of a flood. It is highly advised to test the sensor first before putting it to you as a false alarm may cause disruption and a broken alarm could result in destruction of property and harm towards people. December 4, 2015

It’s Christmas folks! Ever wanted to catch Santa when you were a kid? You most likely wouldn’t have ever had the chance. But now you do! Well, you wouldn’t but your children or your grandchildren would. This Scratch program uses a low-cost, infra-red detector to set off an alarm when Santa sneaks into your room. It’s a great introduction to using simple sensors on the Raspberry Pi, and can be adapted to lots of different projects. Ideal for children of ages ranging from 8-12 (kids usually don’t believe in Santa after they reach their teenage years anyways).
