Trash isn’t trash. It’s a resource and to fully utilise this resource we need to think about how we can make garbage useful. One of the ideas that a noticeable hobbyist came up with is the ‘Trash Light’. A torch that’s made up of trash. ‘Does it even work?’ You might wonder. Not only does it work, it functions much better than a regular torch that you can purchase from stores. So how does trash become better than…  not trash? The answer lies within the Arduino board. This little supercomputer can turn anything useless to something useful. And in this case it’s a LED torch heres a demonstration:

The following components are needed:

  • 6×Green LED
  • 6×Red LED
  • 6×Blue LED
  • 6×White LED
  • 8×Snapple bottlesCleaned, saved from the trash

Raspberry shield

This board is useful for that people who want more from theyr raspberry pi. the board have the following features:
– 16 PWM channels
– 16 IO pins
– 8 ADC channels
– 8 DAC channels

Plus:
– Power controller (with on-off buttons)
– RTC with alarms
– Level shifter for UART, I2C and SPI port

Everything on the board will be controlled by i2c bus, and with a little python script you can control also the power of your Pi. The power controller is a pic which switch 2 mosfets and monitorize 2 GPIO pins letting you safely switch off your Pi both from software and harware buttons. Plus you can program a power on time through the RTC alarm so you can turn on your Pi at a certain time.

Raspberry Pi Password Protector

This project does exactly what it’s name says- protects your password. The mooltipass is an offline password keeper.
The concept behind this product is to minimize the number of ways your passwords can be compromised, while generating and storing long and complex random passwords for the different websites you use daily. It is designed to be as small as possible so it can fit in your pocket. Simply visit a website and the device will ask for confirmation to enter your credentials when you need to login.

In short, you will never have to type any of your routine passwords anymore after this project has been finished. Google will always remember your password but would never disclose any of it’s digits to malware. Think of this as a firewall that’s never failed before. Meet the Robotsons

These three little autonomous vehicles have a lot of similarities such as controller, battery and movement mechanism, and they all percieve the world through photo-transistor eyes. But they are all distinct designs with different capabilities and behaviours. They are the first members of a growing family of miniature robots that Raspberry Pi has given birth to. Each one of these three parts have different functions, a key aspect of their design is at least one photo-transistor eye and one controlled LED. This allows them to interact in a meaningful way. Depending on how they are programmed, this could be as complex as data transmission between bots or as simple as interfering with the sight of other bots. The resulting interaction would also depend on the type of bots. For example, the eyes of robot 1 point downward to scan the surface, while robot 3 only looks forward.

POT00000000 CANNON

Potato cannons have been around since the early 50s and if you’ve ever studio Mayan history you’ll realise they’ve been around since prehistoric times- potatoes being shot out of blowpipes that is. Henceforth in order to evolve the potato cannon we will need to synergise it with modern technology namely Raspberry Pi.

The following equipment is needed for this project:

Cheap of the Cheap Poor of the Poor- Turtle Vacuum

You will never find a cheaper project than this (hence the title) all this project is is simply a vacuum cleaner that’s been automated by the infamous Raspberry Pi. Sound simple? It is simple but that dosen’t mean that anyone can do it; you still need experience writing command scripts for automated machines.

Of course nothing ‘actually comes for free’ so you’re still going to need the following:

Raspberry goes thermal

During the evolution of computers one stood out among the rest- Raspberry Pi. Despite it’s humble beginnings the Raspberry Pi has gone through a lot of changes resulting in it becoming the world’s most powerful supercomputer surpassing all other competitors in terms of size, compatibility, versatility and most importantly price. This project is going to focus on one of the many changes that the Pi has experienced- heat.

Other than the standard $60 price for the Raspberry Pi you will only need to spend $80 to purchase a MLX90621 16×4 IR sensor array. Thermal imaging relies on the heat generated by your surroundings (obviously) to allocate the person, thing or place that you’re trying to take a picture of. In order to increase the accuracy and precision of your photos you will need to modify certain parts of this project to suit your needs. E.g. if you live in a very cold area this project would need more accurate sensors that can pick up smaller heat signals but would fail to identify larger ones.

Arduino Temperature Control

Arduino is a fantastic tool for controlling temperatures especially freezers. For fermenting beer, a chest freezer is a fantastic platform but the factory controls are far too cold. This controller project effectively overrides those by cutting power to the freezer once it chills to the desired temperature. The controller in this project is further enhanced with a standard electrical outlet and light switch controller.

When the switch is on and the temperature is higher than the thermostat setting, the outlet is powerered. When the switch is turned off, or the temperature drops below the thermostat setting, the outlet is off.

It uses a thermistor to measure the temperature in a freezer it then uploads the temperature to ThingSpeak. It also turns on a buzzer if the temperature is above -18°C.
